China-Switzerland: between influence, mistrust and surveillance

In the wake of Berne's recognition of the People's Republic of China in 1950, a number of so-called "friendship" pro-Chinese associations flourished in Switzerland. These organized tours of Peking opera, as well as photo and craft exhibitions, under the wary eye of the Swiss intelligence services.
