Do we need to reinvent insults?

Many insults have homophobic or sexist origins, even if this is sometimes overlooked. At a time when homophobia and sexism are no longer tolerated in our societies, and when we increasingly condemn insults and discrimination based on sexual orientation, what should we do with these age-old insults? Should we banish them and reinvent them? Can we easily forget these terms and replace them with others?
