How ants get out of the nest

Young ants work inside the anthill. They take care of the brood, i.e. the eggs, larvae and pupae. At around four months, they emerge as foragers. They fetch food to supply the colony. They continue in this role until the end of their lives. This change of profession is due to a very specific hormone.
