Researchers resurrect our cellular ancestors

Japanese scientists have succeeded in cultivating microorganisms in the laboratory that could be the basis of almost all living things today. These dʹAsgard archaea, possible ancestors of eukaryotes, could explain how, some two billion years ago, evolution enabled the transition from cells without nuclei to cells with nuclei.
