Stéphane Udry, astrophysicist, was born in Sion. He obtained his PhD from the University of Geneva in 1992, then spent two years at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He then returned to Geneva to work with Michel Mayor, the discoverer of 51 Pegasi b, the first extrasolar planet discovered around a solar-type star. In 2007, Stéphane Udry became a professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Geneva.
