Switzerland, a land of emigration

Migration is often at the center of public debate. Switzerland, today a land of welcome, was until the 20th century a land of emigration. Swiss men and women left for France, Brazil or the United States to escape precariousness or out of a thirst for adventure. Even today, the "Fifth Switzerland" counts hundreds of thousands of members. Why this emigration? What are the differences between yesterday and today?
