Venice time machine or how to reorganize the past

A vast project initiated by the lʹEPFL in 2012 , "the Venice Time machine" is a time machine, a unique research tool, which compiles all archives to obtain an exact reproduction of the city through space and time. What are the challenges of digitizing the past? Why is it so urgent today to access this archival continent?
