What's the point (again) of the Académie française?

"LʹAcadémie française was created in 1635, to give official weight to the work of grammarians. The mission entrusted to the lʹAcadémie is clear: "The principal function of the lʹAcadémie will be to work, with all possible care and diligence, to give certain rules to our language and to make it pure, eloquent and capable of dealing with the arts and sciences."
