Could the Covid pandemic become endemic?

Could the Covid pandemic become endemic, i.e. take hold on a long-term, more or less controllable basis? A growing number of voices, mainly on the political side, but also including a few scientists, are indeed announcing a "fluization" of Covid, which would become a disease present over the long term but in most cases without serious consequences.
